Corpus Christi with Flower Carpets in Sitges (Barcelona, Catalonia)

This week a little wonder occurs among the two Swedes Mona and Göran in Garraf. For a change, they agree on where to spend the coming weekend, June 1-2. But the fact that they both want to celebrate Corpus Christi in Sitges does not mean you are looking for the same experience. Mona is above all interested in the beautiful flower carpets which cover the streets of the town city and the big, annual carnation exhibition. Göran, for his part, is more fascinated by the giant parade and the dancing egg (l’ou com balla).

When Mona promotes Corpus in Sitges with the argument that the festivity is important for the whole of Spain, and then begins to praise the Spanish government's recently unveiled school reform, Göran protests and reminds her of all the objections the Catalanists and the Spanish socialists have against it. Mona gets upset and calls for help from higher powers, namely Spanish ex- Prime Minister José María Aznar.
