April 2: At 19:00, Good Friday procession (viacrucis) in Roquetes (Sant Pere de Ribes (BCN))

April 22: At 19:30 in La Sala of Vilanova i la Geltrú (BCN): A workshop in Catalan on the topic: What do dragons eat?

Other events:

April 14-18: La Mostra - the annual childrens theatre festival of Igualada (BCN).

April 16: At 20:00, in the Melià Hotel of Sitges (BCN): La Nit de l'Empresa, the annual dinner of the Garraf - Penedès Business Association ADEG.

April 22-23: The Vilanova i la Geltrú version of the "Day for the Catalan language" starts with litterary presentations on April 22, at 19:30 in Casa Olivella at the plaça de la Vila. During April 23, there will be several activities around the town, among them the reading of a manifest related to the campaign "En català, naturalment".

April 23: the Day of Sant Jordi (Saint George – Patron Saint of Catalonia). Streets markets of books and roses will be put up not only in the Rambles of Barcelona, but all around Catalonia. N.B. this is not a public holiday.

April 23: Escena BCN at Sant Jordi Club – a joint concert by 15 bands singing in Catalan (the so called Rock Català, currently in a very good shape), among them Els Amics de les Arts.

April 24: Intermon-Oxfam celebrates A Day of Hope - la Festa de la Solidaritat in the plaça de la Vila of Vilanova i la Geltrú.

April 25: The 4th round of referenda on the independence of Catalonia, organized by so called platforms. This is the biggest round so far, with 212 Catalan municipalities taking part, among them Girona, Lleida, Manresa and Reus. In Penedès, referenda will be organized in:

• Garraf: Sant Pere de Ribes
• Alt Penedès: Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Santa Margarida i els Monjos, Font-Rubí, La Granada, Mediona, Puigdàlber, St. Cugat Sesgarrigues, Sant Martí Sarroca, Sant Pere de Riubitlles, Subirats, Torrelavit, Vilobí del Penedès.
• Baix Penedès: Bonastre
• Anoia: Igualada, L’Espelt (Òdena), Capellades, Castellolí, Jorba, Sant Martí Sesgueioles, Vallbona d’Anoia.

April 25: The International Dance Day

April 27: At 20:00, Ernest Benach, president of the parliament of Catalonia, presents his book “Política 2.0” at Vinseum in Vilafranca del Penedès (BCN).

True, this entry was published after the Good Friday viacrucis took place, but I want to keep these events for the records.

The Wirdheim.CAT Event Calendar is a summary of events where I will go, or at least could think of going, but can hopefully help other expats and tourists when they explore Catalonia. It is biased towards the Penedès area (including Sitges), but will also list manifestations of popular culture and other activities taking place in Barcelona, along the Costa Daurada and in the rest of the Catalan speaking world.

This entry will be up-dated whenever I learn about new things, since (compared to my native Sweden) here information about what will happen tends to come late. To the greatest extent possible will I link back to official pages (usually in Catalan) for information on time and locations but can not guarantee the correctness of the data presented.
